Session: We know you create transcendent floral designs. Will you share how that led you to create Wonder Flower?
Wonder Flower: I’d been working as a florist for around 6 years, and it had been a dream to work for myself in some capacity. I really appreciate all styles of floristry, but I wanted to create something different that I wasn’t seeing. The opportunity came up to work alongside a local plant shop, and I had to just seize the opportunity. Now I just celebrated Wonder Flower's 1st Birthday on April 11th.
Session: As a fellow creative entrepreneur, what helps you balance the stress of running a business while maintaining your creativity?
Wonderflower: For me personally, I tend to work on a bit of a rewards program with myself. Once I've checked off the more mundane parts of running the business, I have some fun and focus on the creative. I tend to find inspiration everywhere. Basing arrangements on anything from a rock formation I might see on a walk to a pop song. My notes app is full of nonsense ideas, so I play around with them when I’ve done everything I’m not so keen on.
Session: It’s your day off, and there is no to-do list. What does your perfect day of relaxation look like?
Wonderflower: No to-do list? Sign me up, please. It's the beach when I'm lucky enough to have a free day. All day, every time. I really just love everything the beach entails, swimming, skating on the promenade, picnic food, ice cream, and a bonfire.
Session: What is your favorite High memory?
Wonderflower: Oh god, it's been a minute. I feel like my high memories aren't wild compared to others I've heard! However, I got high at a Tegan and Sara concert once, which is my most memorable and fun high memory.
Session: What do you wish more people knew about caring for their flowers once they leave your shop?
Wonderflower: The one thing is so simple that most people don't think about it, but direct sunlight is a cut flower's worst nightmare! They enjoy the sun, but they definitely don't need the direct sunlight.
Session: Okay, time for a Bonus Question. Are you working on anything new or want to share anything exciting happening at Wonder Flower?
Wonderflower: Im in the early process of planning some workshops, which, hopefully, I’ll be able to hold around different spaces in the local community. I'm very excited about that, and really looking forward to it!
